There was a favorite tweet that goes:
Sins dig you into a hole.
Repeated sins deepen it.
Even if you stop, you have to climb out.
You need spiritual hydration.
This reminds me of a wise saying by Ibn Al-Qayyim rahimahullah:
“Sins generate more sins, and one leads to another,
until they overpower a man,
and he finds it difficult to repent from that.
As one of the earlier generations said:
One of the punishments of bad deeds is more bad deeds,
and one of the rewards of good deeds is more good deeds.”
