It was narrated from Hasan Al-Basri (rahimahullah) that a man said to him, “Indeed, someone has backbitten you.” So Hasan Al-Basri sent a dish of sweet dates to the backbiter and he said:
“I heard that you have given me your good deeds as a gift, so I would like to repay you for it; but please excuse me for I am unable to completely repay you.”
Indeed, we gather up good deeds through prayers, fasting, charity, feeding the poor and so on. But at the end of the day, we give them all up to the ones we backbite. May Allah s.w.t. protect us from becoming bankrupt on the Day of Judgement.
