“So he (Iblis) misled [dalla] them with deception…”
[Surah Al-A’raaf 7:22]
This part of the Ayah contains an incredible amount of wisdom in our dealings with Shaitan. We know how Iblis whispered to our parents Adam and Hawa, but have we ever pondered the method he used?
That method is captured in this expression in the first part of this Ayah. [Dalwun] means a bucket in Arabic, and the word [Dalla] is used when one slowwwwly pulls a bucket up from a well. The word also suggests that it is a continuous process, it’s not a one-time thing.
What it means is this: Shaitan’s method is to tempt us just a tiiiiiiny little bit – something that seems so harmless in the beginning. But he keeps luring us in, makes us compromise little by little, until one day we end up doing the thing that we never thought we’d do. This is a type of deception used by Shaitan.
Hence why Allah s.w.t. commanded Adam a.s. not to go NEAR the tree, instead of don’t EAT from the tree. Similarly, while we are aware the things that have been made impermissible, it is also just as important to be aware the roads LEADING to them. Don’t allow ourselves to be reeled in.
