Al-‘Awfi reported from Ibn ‘Abbas that this means everything on the earth would be wiped out and destroyed.
This is the conclusion of the previous Ayah – that all of the beauty on earth will turn into nothingness. It is also a warning from Allah s.w.t. about the reality of this world. Therefore, it is not worth attaching ourselves to them for they will all fade away and come to an end. Instead, we should attach ourselves which is lasting.
In this Ayah Allah s.w.t. brings us to reality : SubhanAllah, although this Earth now is spread with adornments, so lush and beautiful, one day it will ALL be destroyed – our wealth, our properties, our kingdoms and empires. After having all of these beautification, without a doubt, Allah s.w.t. will destroy them all and the Earth will become barren.
May Allah protect us all from False attachments and attach our hearts to that which is everlasting – ameen.
