Alif. Lam. Mim . This Book has no doubt in it – a guidance for the God-fearing.
Who believe in the Unseen, and are steadfast in Salah (prayer),
and spend out of what We have provided them;
And who believe in what has been revealed to you
and what has been revealed before you; and they have faith in the Hereafter.
It is these who are guided by their Rabb;
and it is just these who are successful.
In Surah Al-Baqarah from the 2nd to the 5th ayat, Allah s.w.t. described some of the characteristics of Al-Muflihun, the successful ones. Al-Muflihun are those who achieve success without any loss whatsoever – complete & total success.
What is success? In a simple term, success is to achieve the desired goal. When we think of success, we think of wealth, status, having lots of properties, fame, education etc.
Al-Muflihun are the ones who attain permanent success in the Hereafter. That is their desired goal. But this doesn’t mean that we should shun the world, because Allah s.w.t. has blessed His slaves with such success & rizq. If we work hard & achieved that goal, that is fine.
But he real smart people are the ones who use these resources to make them work for their Hereafter as well. What it means is that they don’t simply end when I die, but will benefit even after my death. So make use of our talents, wealth, health, free time, etc in a way that is pleasing to Allah so that they can become our investment in the Hereafter.
As what Mufti Ismail Menk wrote: “Convert your wealth into good deeds that will follow you into the hereafter by spending it. If not, it leaves you as you leave this world.”
