[Al-Baqarah 2:67] Jaahil vs Aaqil

Think it’s cool/smart to curse?

…He (Musa a.s.) said,
“I take Allah’s Refuge from being among Al-Jahilun (the ignorants or the foolish).”
[Al-Baqarah 2:67]

The word Jaahil in Arabic is the opposite of ‘Aaqil. Jaahil means someone who has no control over their emotions eg. being disrespectful, insulting, etc. If a bad word comes to their mind, it comes out immediately of their mouth – there is no thought process.

Whereas ‘Aaqil comes from the word ‘iqaal, which the Arabs refer to the rope they use to tie and restrain their camels from running away. So ‘Aaqil is someone who is able to restrain themselves, someone who has control over their emotion. And this is a person of aql / intellect.
