[Ash-Shuraa 42:40] The Reward for Forgiveness and Reconciliation

Got a temper issue?

The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree);
but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation,
his reward is due from Allah for (Allah) loves not those who do wrong.
[Ash-Shuraa 42:40]

This ayah teaches us that when we seek justice against someone who has wronged us, we are bound to a very specific quantity on how much we can get back from that person. We absolutely cannot go overboard because this is also an act of injustice, and Allah does not love those who are zalim.

But if we forgive & reconcile, we get so much reward that Allah s.w.t. doesn’t even put a quantity to it. Allah s.w.t. says that the reward is due from Him with no specific amount mentioned. So imagine how much blessings & favors bestowed to the one who forgives & reconciles!

And verily, whosoever shows patience and forgives
that would truly be from the things recommended by Allah.
[Ash-Shuraa 42:43]
